The results of our sunflower competition are now available. In first place is Errin's at a whopping 2.5 metres tall. In second place is Charlie's at 196cm, in third place is Elodie's at 189cm and in joint 4th place are Martha and Freddy's at 180cm. The first sunflower to actually flower was Phoebe's. So well done to everyone for all of that watering!

We have been on a day trip into the heart of our lovely countryside. Having all piled into the minibus we started off at the White Horse at Kilburn where we did the circuit up the steps and down through the woods. We watched the resident family of Peregrine falcons circling and riding thermals above our heads for a while before watching the take off and landing of gliders and their tow planes. There is also a good view from the top of a large crop circle. The trip back through the woods saw us munch a few wild raspberries and bilberries before enjoying the picnic we'd brought with us. We then set off for Helmsley where we all had some good old Brymor ice-cream whilst enjoying the company of Archie the dog and the bright sunshine. We saw the castle and had a few wet shoes in the stream!
Next it was up to the moors above Helmsley where we went for a lovely walk and found lots of wood ant nests and fir cones. We had a few moments total silence just to listen to how quiet it was up there; all we heard was a bird song and the wind through the trees. Just as it started to rain heavily we made it back to the minibus to head home. A great day out.

We have also taken advantage of the lovely new Memorial Park in Easingwold recently. The fabulous new facilities are much appreciated by the children of all ages and give us a welcome change.

We have got 3 newly hatched ducklings at Westfield once more! Twirl, Rolo and Wispa are all chocolate coloured Call ducks and will be a great learning experience for the children.

Two of the ladies are extending their training for the Out of School Club this year. Kate and Lisa are taking extra playwork modules to update their qualifications.

From September this year the 'free hours' for 3 & 4 year old children will be extended from 12.5 to 15 free hours. These can be used at Westfield between the hours of 8am until 4pm and will be a great benefit for children and their parents.
